Creativity and hope in isolation
The last day of school leading up to these days of isolation was an emotional one. I did the school run with tears in my eyes as I contemplated how long the social distancing and expected isolation might last, how much the children would miss their friends, their learning, the fun activities of the summer term and their teachers.

Celebrating Easter during the Coronavirus crisis
The Coronavirus pandemic has forced us to think about how we do faith at home. But, how do we do that in a way that helps children explore their own faith? What does Easter look like in this setting? And how do we talk to children about difficult topics like death and resurrection? Ruth Jackson spoke to Gill Ambrose, Chair of Trustees for Godly Play UK.

Prayer in a ‘new normal’
These are strange times. I saw a tweet recently that described the feeling of simultaneously under and overreacting to what’s going on, and how hard that is to process. I can see where the tweeter is coming from. Nearly all of us have never experienced such restrictions on the way we live our lives; it’s very confusing.

Coronavirus: a youth worker's response to online ministry
“Now is the time for everyone to stop non-essential contact with others and to stop all unnecessary travel” – I was out bowling with my youth group and fellow youth leaders when Boris Johnson made the announcement that we would have to stop all social gatherings. It was a difficult thing for us all to comprehend, and it’s a statement that has likely been haunting youth and children's pastors ever since it was made.

Coronavirus: kids on home-schooling
Us adults have been talking about home-schooling a lot, and for good reason. It's important our children still have access to education, even from home. Throughout history, the Church has been consistently changing and adapting the way it communicates the unchanging message of God's grace. Withdraw to the wilderness: seeing Jesus in coronavirus isolation
I consider myself quite a solitary person – I'm no raging introvert, but I do prefer to be in my own company. More often than not, you’ll find me with my headphones in, deep in my own thoughts, hiding under a duvet in my room or walking peacefully through Epping Forest (solo, of course).

Keeping children and young people mentally healthy during isolation
As the first week of home schooling comes to an end, parents up and down the country can congratulate themselves for getting to Friday afternoon. Children will be delighted to have the opportunity for family time over the weekend. But, how can we support our children and young people to maintain and protect their mental health while ensuring we’re looking after our own?

How we can support young carers in isolation
I am a support worker for young carers aged five to 18 who look after their disabled, ill or addicted family members. It’s my job to ensure they are coping with what they are going through. I might give them a call to see how they’re doing, take them out and about – anything to give them the kind of normality that they lack. Right now, it’s proving difficult.
