Almost half of teens bullied for their appearance

    2017-01-19T00:00:00Z

A new study has revealed that almost half of teenagers are bullied for the way they look. The study, conducted by ‘Stronger Together’ - a joint initiative between ‘Make mine milk’ and BeatBullying - shows that 48 per cent of teenagers have been bullied for their appearance, with girls (51 per cent) experiencing it more than boys (44 per cent). Alone in a room full of people

    2017-01-19T00:00:00Z

As youth workers, we are often perceived to be social beings: at the centre of the crowd, leading from the front, friendly and larger than life. However, in the youth work world, professional and personal lines become blurred; we are often alone in our offices and homes during the day and we are working when others are out socialising in the evening.

'No one responds to my alter calls'

    2017-01-19T00:00:00Z

Despite not being part of a church that had a physical altar since my childhood, I have seen many hundreds of people give their lives to Jesus following ‘altar calls’. However, every time I have made an evangelistic altar call in my youth ministry the response has been the same: none.

Mince pies, icy ponds and an alternative Christmas date!

    2017-01-19T00:00:00Z

If you Google ‘Christmas’ right now, you will find a lot of Christians around the world just beginning to get into the Christmas spirit. Just as your young people are going back to school and you’re getting your head back into consent forms, finishing off the last mince pies and turkey sandwiches, there will be people jumping into lakes, rivers and icy ponds to find a cross that has been thrown there by a priest. Why is that? What Christian festivals are going on right now and why are people just starting to celebrate Christmas on January 7th? Isn’t Christmas the 25th of December?
