Beth and I had been running the CU at our school for a year, but really wanted to get more people involved.

We had done some discussion groups in the past, which had encouraged the whole school to start talking about difficult issues; however, we felt as if people were missing out on Jesus and focusing too much on the preconceptions they had surrounding Christianity. At Soul Survivor we found the Alpha stand and discussed running Alpha in our school. We were all fired up to start sharing the gospel, but when the new term started, school work levels rose and our CU numbers dropped. The two of us spent many Monday mornings praying about what we should do. We wanted to show people the amazing stuff that God could do for them but weren’t really sure how to go about it, so we decided to give Alpha a go. We did several assemblies to ‘advertise’ and several people seemed genuinely interested. At our first session we watched the Alpha Youth Film Series online. Alpha was really easy to run; all the videos are online and it gives you time to pause and discuss questions about life. We had a few non-Christians who came along to every session and I think they definitely left feeling more open towards God. As Christians, it definitely helped us to realise why we believe what we do and taught us a lot about sharing our faith. At first we were a bit disheartened that only a few people actually came to the sessions ,but when we saw them begin to accept Jesus it made it all worth it!
