Two reports published by the Office of the Children’s Commissioner have warned that the level of sexual violence in neighbourhoods dominated by gangs and gang culture is comparable to that of a war-zone. Professor Jenny Pearce, author of one of the reports entitled It’s wrong… but you get used to it, said, ‘In some areas the level of sexual violence and the types of violence inflicted are comparable to how sexual violence is used in war-torn territories.’
