Five-fold rise in young people seeking medical help for gender dysphoria

There has been a huge increase in the number of young people seeking medical help for problems with gender identity. There were almost 700 referrals to the UK’s only clinic for transgender children in 2014, up from just 139 in 2010. While many who go for treatment simply get advice and support, others are given access to drugs known as ‘blockers’, which are said to pause puberty
