During my teenage years, Instagram had just started gaining popularity. My friends and I would post selfies of our street, adorned with Instagram’s built-in filters and accompanied by a quote found on Pinterest. Fast forward to today, and young people have access to incredible AI software that can assist them in various ways. These advancements include generating captions, creating visually appealing text-to-image posts, and scripting TikTok videos. With the aid of AI tools like Canva’s innovative ‘magic’ feature, young people now have the potential to excel in fields such as graphic design and marketing. These technologies empower them to tap into their creative potential and produce captivating content with ease. It’s not all about creativity either. Using ChatGPT or similar programs, young people can learn to code, understand quantum mechanics in simple terms, get a list of 100 things to do when you’re bored, or write a CV.

But that’s not to say it’s all (AI created) unicorns and rainbows. There are some significant dangers and risks; from asking ChatGPT to complete your homework for you, to the ability to create devastating deep fakes. Now snapchat has thrown their digital hand in, and created a chatbot that encourages meeting strangers in parks, and gives sex-tips to minors.
