Tabitha Heathcote and her children gave The Bible App for Kids a go and love what they found
In an age of endless screen time and too many apps, it can be hard to find one that is truly age-appropriate, wholesome, and safe for our kids to use. The Bible App for Kids ticks all the right boxes. It’s ad-free and can be used fully offline (you just have to remember to download the stories!). Our family gives it 5 stars! It’s a fantastic resource for families, and a safe, wholesome Bible adventure app that children can also use independently.
The home screen presents a simple Bible timeline, with pictures and a progress tracker so you can see how far you’ve made it through the Bible. Gentle background music plays as you navigate, which can be switched off. As you download each story, the icon changes from blurred out to full colour, making it easy to identify which stories you’ve already accessed.
The Bible translation is accessible for both children and adults, and the narration is pleasant and easy to listen to
Along with tracking your journey through the Bible, the app incorporates a reward system similar to other popular apps. There are three categories of awards for children to collect:
- Trophy points for completing reading challenges.
- Star points for reading, answering questions, and exploring the collections.
- Gem points, hidden within the stories, which sparkle to encourage kids to engage with the story and its illustrations. Progress in all three categories is visible in the bottom left-hand corner of the home screen.
The Bible translation is accessible for both children and adults, and the narration is pleasant and easy to listen to. It’s especially great for pre-readers, as even the follow-up questions can be read aloud. For confident readers, the audio narration can be turned off. Each “page” of the story includes an animated picture. When children touch different parts of the image, elements come alive—triggering sound effects, extra questions, or movement in the story. And don’t forget the gem collecting!
After reading a story, children can access related activities such as colouring pages, matching games, and picture sequencing. Once the story has been accessed, these activities can be repeated as many times as they like.
For 3–7-year-olds, this app is brilliant. Our 3 and 5-year-olds regularly choose it during screen time.
Drawbacks:
1. Limited activity variation
The app doesn’t offer a wide range of different activities. While our younger children are happy to repeat the same games and still enjoy them, older children might lose interest due to the lack of variety.

2. Repetitive quiz format
The comprehension questions are mostly true or false and have the answers. While this does help reinforce biblical truths, older children quickly catch on and may not find it very engaging.
3. No in-app access to full Bible text
Each story provides a Bible reference with a link to the YouVersion Bible app (which requires parental consent each time). This is a great opportunity for family engagement, but it would have been a nice bonus to include the full Bible text directly within the app for children or adults wanting to explore further.
It’s a regular favourite in our home, and we highly recommend it for young children aged 3–7
Despite a few limitations, The Bible App for Kids is an outstanding, safe, and engaging tool to help children interact with the Bible in a fun and meaningful way. It’s a regular favourite in our home, and we highly recommend it for young children aged 3–7.
